About:

The Belmont University carillon contains 43 Petit and Fritsen bells. The bourdon sounds a G# in the middle range. The first 23 bells were installed in 1986 as a replacement of a Gillett and Johnston carillon in the same tower from 1929 to 1951. 20 additional bells were added by Meeks and Watson in 2002, and the low D# was added by Meeks and Watson in 2006. The carillon tower was built in 1853 as a water tower for the Belmont estate. It is one of the oldest towers in North America containing a carillon.

The carillon is played several times a week during the academic year and for numerous university events, including commencement ceremonies and homecoming. The most significant concert is played annually on Christmas Eve afternoon when hundreds of Nashvillians come to hear traditional Christmas music, a tradition that began in the 1930s.
